If I were the Minister of Health in Singapore, I would put systems in place to help and ensure that medical practitioners communicate intensely among themselves.

While I am no expert on the inner workings of a hospital (not a good place to spend too much time), I do know that doctors need to communicate more among each other.

The more specialized they get the more they need to communicate.

Why?

Most diseases that cause illness or death in a developed country like Singapore are not infectious disease. Cholera, TB, influenza are not the big problems we face as a country.

The diseases that kill are degenerative diseases like diabetes, heart disease, obesity, stroke, high blood pressure etc.

And degenerative disease is MULTI-FACTORIAL so medical staff of all specialties must communicate to form a holistic approach to health.

Let's Talk About It

For example, if you have diabetes, you might see an internal medicine specialist, but you probably have bad heart and cardiovascular health too, so you need to see a cardiologist, and you are probably fat, so you need a nutrition coach also, not to mention a personal trainer to get you exercising, and a kidney specialist because kidney failure is next up… oops so is alzhimers (people with diabetes also have far higher risk of alzhimers)… so you need a neurologist!

If these health professionals don’t talk in depth about you…you are in trouble.

The problem now is that in many cases, you are not messed up enough in some areas to warrant proper attention.

Your blood pressure might be high, but not quite high enough to see a cardiologist…

You may be overweight but not obese so no need to see a nutritionist or a personal trainer…

You may have high blood fats and high indicators for blood vessel damage, but not enough to reach “critical”…

You may be this and that but not bad enough to get your health professional’s attention… uhoh.

This is like taking the O level exam and never once getting a F9 fail grade… but getting LOTS AND LOTS of E8…

Did you “fail” …no… but are you in trouble.. YES YES and most certainly YES.

If doctors all communicated, you would know about this trouble and would be on the path to recovery far quicker!

I do enjoy some of the USA’s culture. Basketball, American football, the freedom to pursue your dreams… in fact I take US based courses and seminars as well as business coaching.

No reason not to if people have gone ahead of you in certain areas. But public health and fitness is NOT one of those areas! I really hope health and fitness in Singapore does not go down that same road.

A new report by the Center of disease control and prevention shows that the USA is losing ground in the race to stem obesity. In fact at the current rate of spread, by 2040, EVERY adult in the USA will be obese…sure that won’t happen and it is just a statistic but it is scary!

Uh oh… The responsibility is on each of us. Market forces are certainly not going to help us. Look at the worrying new surge of DOUGHNUT SHOPS in Singapore. And the long lines of people waiting outside them…

Yeah as a personal trainer and fitness coach here in Singapore, its my job to tell people exactly how bad obesity is. It leads to more sick days and costs employers money. So its bad for the country and the economy.

If you don’t care about your boss and how much he earns… you should at least care about your brain because nobody’s responsible for that except you.

New research shows obesity linked to increased chance of dementia in old age! Ugh. that’s SCARY!

This should come as no suprise because if you are fat, your have likely eaten a bunch of trans-fats from stuff like fried and baked goods. Trans fats have the “wonderful” property of making your brain cells less efficient.

And when the body has a choice, it will choose to lose short term memory first, because as a “Caveman” which we are genetically designed to be, long term memory like “where the buffaloes were last year” is much more important than short term.

Like just about every major illness in developed countries, it goes away with diet and exercise… no surprises there!

As usual our exercise programs, supplementation plans and individualized nutrition plans at the Genesis Performance Center make sure that your body kicks out any cells “infected” with trans fat, so that you are healthy from head to toe.
