Working With Young Athletes - Giving Back To The Community
Here is my "hobby". Working with young athletes. Many of the difficulties (poor posture, poor habits, poor movement skills, poor diet you name it!) that I have to work long and hard to overcome for my older clients, we can fix right here and now with these young guys.
These young athletes are motivated and teachable. What more can a coach ask for.
When working with young athletes we go after:
-
Movement Skills (especially deceleration) which prevent injury
-
Sports Specific Skills
-
Weight Lifting with moderate reps (no maxing out, just consistent 2x a week total body training)
-
Massive eating of healthy foods
Movement skills are learnt at a young age. In fact when these guys come to me at age 13, some skills are already set in place.
Sports Specific skills are needed to translate physical movement skills into game performances
Weights get people strong so opponents get out of your way
Eating helps us recover well and makes the most of our training.
