OK Healthy Foods
As a personal trainer in Singapore, I have found that these foods just barely find a place in a good diet (rarely!).
Ice cream
At least it’s got some calcium and protein from the milk content. And the
sugars are real sugar not the high fructose corn syrup. If you are going to eat
an indulgent meal, ice cream is a good choice as compared to things like potato
chips. I personally love good quality ice cream and this is my dietary
indulgence of choice. Many of my personal training clients in Singapore love
ice-cream as well, and if they had to eat a "cheat" food, ice cream is a good
choice.
Butter
Good variety of saturated fats (some saturated fats are good as they help
build cellular structures in your body… see its hard to find 0 star foods!) and
has some medium and short chain fatty acids that can be used as energy. Small
amounts of butter taste good and won’t hurt your diet that much.
All the fruit juice adds would like you to believe they are good substitutes for the real thing. If they are directly from the fruit with no added sugar or preservatives they are ok (this pretty much means you squeeze it yourself). But seriously, why not eat the fruit and get the fiber and all the nutrients? Eat fruit, drink water. Simple. For clients and readers doing personal training in Singapore, do take note, that many food center juices are heavily sugared and even the cut fruits are dipped in sugar to make them more appealing to the taste.
